POSITION SUMMARY:
The
role
of the
Farm
and
Wellness Coordinator will
facilitate
the
development, upkeep, and
expansion of
beautification &
food/herb
production at
properties associated with the
Upward
Bound House.
This role also
includes all other associated
tasks necessary
to
integrate
with
the
wider
scope
of
the
Wellness
Program
and UBH goals at
large. The
sites
are
the
"Farm
on
Yale"
TAY
sites
and
CES
site located in
South
LA with the possibility of additional locations in the
future. A
Farm
and Wellness
Coordinator
blends agricultural knowledge
with health
and wellness promotion. This role
is
ideal for someone
who
thrives in
community settings and enjoys
hands-on
work
that ties together
sustainable
living,
nutrition,
education, and wellness.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of UBH
Property green spaces:
1) Seasonal planting
every 3 months or as needed in accordance
with the
specific site.
2) Maintenance
and installation of
irrigation-related
needs from
growing beds, fields and greenhouse.
3) Maintained seedling supply from
Yale
Garden Greenhouse
to
be
distributed to
all
related sites.
4) Acquisition and transport
of all associated base
materials, soil
etc.
5) Coordinate
with the
W/P department
head to
plan the
development
of sites.
6) Weekly check-in
&
planning with W/P
department
head.
7) Harvesting
/
Coordinating
with respective
sites
leads
to ensuring the
product
makes it
to
clients at
location.
8) Surveying alongside
site
leads to ensure
what
is grown at
said sites is
in alignment
with client
demand.
9) General upkeep
of site
visual "aesthetics" independent
of
Volunteer support.
10) The
care
of all animals at
any
relevant
sites
wherein they
are
located. As
well as
a photographic record
of
regular care.
Integration & Communication with UBH departments:
1) Maintaining UBH staff-wide
accessible
documents
with volunteer group dates.
2) Maintain year-round calendar with Family day
activities and Guests Accessible
to UBH Staff.
3) Seasonal
Planting schedule, every three
months
and
made
accessible
to
UBH staff, with
the
eventual
inclusion of
projected produce
available
throughout
the
year.
4) Coordinate
with assigned
pantry
staff
for
deliveries from Yale
&
Farmers
Market Donations.
5) Weekly checking
with Site
managers
at
TAY
locations
&
WPC as
to
the
status of
those
locations and
projects.
Events & Community Outreach:
1) Providing the
Development
team with
material from photos to "things happening"
at
UBH garden
properties.
2) Provide
Mark
&
Rouge
with the
same
material
as above
for
their
monthly
Newsletter.
3) Gather
volunteer
waivers and emails
for
Newsletters.
4) Foster
relationships
with
other Nonprofits to
support
the
needs
of
the
W/P
gardens.
5) Coordinate
with the
Development
team
&
other
organizations to
garner
weekly volunteers.
Yearly Budget Projections:
1) Annual projected costs
for
the
Yale
garden.
2) Estimated
cost
for TAY
site
improvement
and annual upkeep.
3) Itemized
breakdown
of
materials/costs needed for the
respective
Sites
marked for improvement
&
development.
4) Inventory of respective
site
materials and
estimated value
of
said items.
5) Annual cost
of
materials needed
for
Family Day events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must
be
available
three
full
8-hour
standard work
days
spread between all garden
locations.
Tuesday-Saturday
with Saturdays being spent
in its
entirety
at
the
Yale
Garden. Two
days spent
in administrative
activities
either at
the
Yale
Garden
or
the
Santa Monica
Office.
- Farming and gardening experience.
- Experience
planning or running wellness programs,
workshops,
or retreats.
3) Community
engagement
or
outreach work.
4) Project
coordination
or nonprofit
experience.
5) Managing volunteers or interns.
6) Strong knowledge
of
nutrition.
7) Ability
to
develop and lead
wellness
workshops, farm tours, and educational
events.
8) Understanding of seasonal
crop planning and farm operations.
9) Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills.
10) Cultural competency

if
working

communities.
